Preparing for New Exterior Paint

It’s that time!  The current exterior paint on the house is aging and will need refreshing.  The preparations are already underway.  These include, patching any holes, and cracks that exist with caulk or wood filler where appropriate.  We also need to replace all of the aging window trim.  We are upgrading the look fro a 1″ trim to 2.5″ trim with 45 degree cut corners.  I think this look is a much needed improvement.  The next steps are to scrape, sand and prime stripping paint in preparation for the actual paint.  We will also be prepping and painting the shed in the back to get an idea of how the house will look with our chosen color.  Here is a little preview of the new window trim – this is the bathroom window (nail heads have not been primed yet).

New Toilet

We are dreaming about updating the upstairs bathroom.  It currently boasts a lot of pinkish 70′s ceramic, tile, and linoleum.  We hope to eventually add some updated tile and paint the dated cabinets.  The first step was of course to get a current, water-efficient toilet.  We chose a Kohler Cimarron kit with comfort height, no slam lid, and 1.6 gallons per flush (as opposed to the old pink toilet which flushed 3+ gallons per flush).  Specifications are here – http://www.us.kohler.com/onlinecatalog/detail.jsp?item=14640902.  Here is a photo of the new throne!
